Happiness has been a focus of mine for the past few months. I’ve never been more stressed school wise, but I’ve been trying to focus on the little things, and take things one step at a time. Here are some of the things I’ve been doing to keep up my happiness.
1.) “I have no reason to be sad”
I tell this to myself when I get upset over little things. For example, if my mom starts talking to me about college and I really do not want to at that time, I may get upset. I tell myself that while I may be mad, I have no reason to act like this. It works every time!
2.) I talk to my friends
My friends always know how to make me feel better. They can comfort me, make me laugh, or even keep me occupied from what I’m sad about. I really recommend this if you don’t do well with keeping things to yourself.
3.) I watch football
Strange, right? Well, if you’ve been following the blog for a while, then you know that I am a DIE HARD football fan. Football is my life- ’nuff said. If you hate sports, I’m not saying that you have to watch football. I’m saying that watching something that makes you happy can help you. Even if its an old baby video, your favorite YouTube video, really anything that puts a smile on your face. Feeling yourself smile has been proven to help boost your mood, which is always an amazing feeling.
Usually people do not recommend sleeping when you’re sad, but honestly, a nice nap can make a huge difference. I often find myself feeling extra tired when I’m done, but once I return from a little nap, I feel refreshed. I feel ready to take on the day.
5.) Make yourself a good meal
This one doesn’t have to be about food necessarily, but more along the lines of pampering yourself. Paint your nails. Make a good meal. Watch your favorite movie. Anything that makes you feel special- do it. Because, guess what? YOU’RE WORTH IT. You don’t need an excuse to treat yourself right.
You know the saying “Fake it till you make it?” Well, that applies to this. There has been numerous situations where I’ve just felt like crying, and breaking down. Instead, I put on a fake smile, and ya know what… it works. It works??? How??? The more you convince someone of something, the more you convince yourself. You are your ultimate motivator, and giving yourself that satisfaction can make a giant difference.
Happiness is so key, especially during the school year and in the work force. Never forget how blessed you are in life, and all the people like appreciate you. You are so loved and you don’t need an excuse to treat yourself well.
