Finally guys- I’m finally reveling my secret.
For the longest time, people have asked me how the heck I make my bowls on Instagram. Whenever I post them, I get tons of questions on whats in them, how I make them, etc. Truth me told: there is no exact recipe. I kinda wing it, and hope it tastes good (it usually does).
Veggies are an absolute STAPLE in my bowls. I usually have a bed of spinach, arugula, kale, or romaine- today it was kale and spinach. When I use kale, I massage it in olive oil to let it soften down, which is crucial. I also massage it in lemon juice to give it a nice flavor. I usually add in a roasted vegetable as well, like carrots, brussel sprouts, etc. Tonight I roasted a purple carrot up, but I usually do brussel sprouts as well.
I do have some guidelines, which I’m sharing with you today. I always have a carb of sorts. Whether it’s potatoes, rice, quinoa- I always add something in it to give it a good carb boost. For these photos, I used a small sweet potato and some brown rice, but the possibilities are endless.
Oh, and we cannot for get fats. I strive to get fats into every meal, so these bowls are no different. It’s usually 1/2 an avocado, a dressing of sorts, tahini- you know, the usual. Today, I massaged my kale in olive oil and added a tahini dressing, which was 1 tbsp tahini, 1 tbsp water, 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Healthy fats are crucial to absorb all the other nutrients, and they help keep you full and focused.
Next, I add in protein of some sorts. Usually, it’s tofu, tempeh, eggs, salmon, beans- the list goes on and on. Today, I used a leftover chickpea & feta patty that I crumbled up. I want my meals to have substance protein, which is why I usually add hemp hearts as well, but I was all out of them today 🙁
With these bowls, you can add on whatever you want. They’re super customizable, and very filling, which is why I love making them almost every night. I’d LOVE if you guys shared me your bowls on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, etc. I want some new ideas for bowls, and I’d love to see how you do it!
