A few years ago, I went to a super bowl party with some family friends and one of them brought a thing of Sabra Hummus for dipping. I had never tried hummus before, but when I tried it there, I was blown away. IT WAS AMAZING. However, my parents never bought it, so I never got to try other types of hummus.
Recently though, I’ve been playing around in the kitchen, and discovered the perfect hummus recipe- with a twist. The secret ingredient for this recipe is… red pepper flakes. WHAT. But won’t that make it super spicy? Nope. I add only a tsp of them, and it adds the perfect flavor.
This hummus recipe is extremely simple, and you can add your own flavor to it depending on the spices you use. I always have this on hand, and seem to be making a new batch every two weeks or so. It’s so tasty, and my entire family loves it.
INGREDIENTS (makes about two-three cups):
2 cups canned garbanzo/chick peas, drined
A little less than 1/3 cup tahini
2 tbsp bean juice (just use some of the juice from the canned chick peas)
1/4 dup lemon juice (I just eye ball it)
2 cloves garlic, halved
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp water
Optional- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
Spices of choice (Depending on the flavor you want)
In a blender, combine all your ingredients and blend. You may have to stop it and mix the batter around depending on the strength of your blender. When it’s done, transfer to an air tight container and enjoy! Keep this refrigerated so it does not spoil as fast.
