When I transitioned to this lifestyle, I thought the only way I could get greens in was through salads. I knew the benefits of “eating the rainbow”, so I ate A LOT of salads. I love salad, but after twenty days of kale and spinach, I figured out that salads weren’t the only way I could get greens in. It came twenty days late. People- do not neglect your greens!! As trendy as it can be to order a kale salad, there’s so many health benefits that many people struggle with getting in on a day to day basis. Not anymore; here’s six ways to get more greens in!
Smoothie bowls are the new quinoa kale salad. It’s a proven fact. I’ve even jumped on the bandwagon, as you can see by my Instagram. However, I truly enjoy adding spinach to my smoothies. A few handfuls of it can pack a ton of punch without tasting it (see below- I added about three handfuls into my smoothie and look how pretty it is!). So, go and add some spinach to your smoothie bowl for some added iron! Extra points if you Instagram it 😉
Posted about this last week, but I’ll say it again- adding zucchini to your oats makes a biiggg difference in volume. You don’t even taste it, but you get so much more food and volume!
3.) Lettuce Wraps
If you live in California, then this can be known as “protein style” at In-n-Out burger. I don’t eat red meat, so I haven’t tried that. However, I make lettuce wraps all the time at home (they’re not very photo friendly, which explains the no photo). Instead of a heavy tortilla for taco tuesday, use lettuce cups. You can still get the crunch without the extra calories. That means you can add extra avocado if you desire 😉
Kind of like scrambles, adding some spinach to a stir fry (I have a recipe coming soon on it!) adds volume and an authentic stir-fry taste. I recommend adding it at the end so it doesn’t become extremely soggy. I’ll have a more in-depth recipe coming soon!
Ever get tired of a plan two egg omelet? Same. That’s why I add arugula to my omelets. It gives it a gorgeous color and adds to the fluffiness. Plus, arugula is my favorite green, so I always kind a way to get it in.
GUYS. SALADS CAN BE TASTY. I SWEAR. This one is self explanatory, but please, do not discriminate against salads. Don’t let one bad salad deter you away from them!! EAT YO GREENS AND ENJOY IT!!! I post a ton of power bowls on my instagram, and they’re truly delicious!
