When I began my fitness journey, I was convinced that my only options were the gym in terms of fitness. I didn’t even consider my sport, ice skating, a physical activity. Maybe I was so used to it as my hobby that it didn’t cross my mind, or maybe I was brainwashed by the media to believe that.
Let’s face it- the media portrays fitness as this time glamorized activity that you need to spend thousands of dollars on. Every channel you turn to… BOOM… a new machine that can “maximize the calorie burn” and “shred fat.” Don’t even get me started on Lululemon, because as amazing as their clothing is, the only reason it’s so overpriced is because the classes people wear their leggings to are as well. My point is that fitness is not a glamorized, expensive thing that only the shredded elites get to participate in.
How do I know this? Well, for one- when I first began my fitness journey, I was one of the outsiders. A fat little ninth grader, I slowly learned my ways around what the heck “strength training” and “HIIT” was. Now, I stick with the basic- weights and cardio. As greatful as I am that I have the access to a gym, most don’t, which is why I’m here today. Chobabi and I have paired up to bring you some simple workouts that burn the calories all without requiring a fancy gym membership or new lulu’s. Plus, you already do some of these things!
Walk Your Dog- As an owner of four dogs, it’s so important for me to walk them everyday. Taking your pet for a thirty minute walk is revealing for both you and your animal. Walks are a great way to calm your mind and unwind, but you can intensify them by taking hills, the long routes- it’s up to you!
Walk Places– See a trend? Walking is one of the simplest ways to get active because we already do it so much in our day to day lives. I love walking places, especially because so much of my life is spent sitting down in a chair. If you have a desk job, I recommend walking to as many things as possible- the steps will add up!
Go For a Swim- Okay, so this one is the hardest out of them all. But really, when you think about it, when have you ever thought of swimming as your exercise for the day? Unless you are diligently swimming laps, you’re probably just having fun with some friends. During the summer, try swimming more. Trust me- you’ll feel the burn! Challenge your friends to some friendly races or see who can tread water the longest. It’s harder than it looks 😉
Dancing- No, I don’t mean those intense 90 minute dance classes only people who’ve been doing the sport for five years do. I mean the fun Zumba classes they offer at your YMCA on Friday’s. I mean a fun salsa night with friends, or a dance party to your favorite throwbacks. Dancing is quite the sweat, and you’re having fun at the same time!
Of course, we have to stay fueled, and one way of doing that is through Chobani Simply 100’s. These protein packed yogurts are perfect after a workout to refuel your muscles and give you long lasting energy to swim the pool or dance the night away 😉 Plus, they contain no artificial sweeteners, which is a rarity now a days in big chain yogurts. Next time you’re at your local Ralph’s, I recommend trying some flavors (I love the strawberry and passion fruit flavors 😉 ) and bringing them to your next dance party!
Remember- life isn’t all about fitness and how much you did that day. The calorie burn doesn’t matter. What matters is how you feel, and how much effort you put in. If you don’t feel like dancing because your tired- don’t. Let your body rest. Realize your life shouldn’t revolve around the gym, and there are plenty of options for how to get active!
