My best friends and I (shoutout to y’all if you’re reading this) kinda have a pizza obsession. When I mean kinda I mean that every time we hangout, someone ALWAYS suggests pizza and 99% of the time- we eat pizza. Whether it be delivery, make your own, or frozen, we’re always looking for a good pizza.
While I admit that I am not a huge pizza fan, I do enjoy it with my friends. That’s why this craving I got for pizza one day was so strange. Maybe it was the California heat wave (anyone else feeling that?!) or the fact that i was seeing my friends later that day, but I knew I wanted it. I wanted it BAADDDD. I have an oat flour pizza crust up on the blog, but this one is for the days when you are really craving an authentic pizza crust.
Disclaimer- this won’t taste like the actual pizza crust. Oh I wish it could replicate Pizza Hut, but honestly- I like the flavor of this crust, and I’m not just saying that. The oat flour crust is good for a quick cook, but it is better for breakfast. This is peeerrffect for a girls night in- paired with The Breakfast Club, of course!
INGREDIENTS (Serves 2):
1 tsp pizza seasoning
1 + 1/2 tsp rising yeast
2/3 cup warm water
1/4 tsp salt
Toppings / sauce of choice*
* = in the photos, I used low sodium pasta sauce, basil pesto, feta cheese, sundried tomatoes, and nutritional yeast*.
** = if using nutritional yeast, add after you finish baking it.
1.) Pre-heat your oven to 400 F.
2.) Combine your warm water with your salt and yeast. Stir the mixture and let sit for 5 minutes.
3.) In a bowl, combine seasonings and whole wheat flour. Mix it around, and then add the warm water + yeast + salt. Mix that around even more. You should get a dough like consistency.
4.) On a baking sheet that has been sprayed with non stick spray, form two large balls out of the dough and place on the mat.
5.) Using a roller, flatten out your dough until it is thin (not necessary, but I prefer doing this.) Stick in the oven for 10 minutes.
6.) After the 10 minutes, take out of the oven and add your sauces + cheese + other toppings. Stick back in the oven for 5 minutes.
7.) Once down, remove and let cool for a few minutes. Then.. enjoy!
